Haejin Ring Builder — How It Works & Education
Welcome! This guide explains the Ring Builder in plain English—how to pick a ring, what you’re actually buying, metals, shapes, sizing, and how to avoid getting stuck. Everything here matches how our builder behaves on the site.
────────────────────────────────
QUICK START (3 EASY STEPS)
Step 1 — Choose your ring type
Pick a card such as Solitaire, Accented Solitaire, Three-Stone, Five-Stone, Halo, or Hidden Halo. Shape icons under each card show which stone shapes that ring type supports. If a card shows “Accents Available,” that ring can be made with a plain or accented shank.
Step 1½ — Customize
When you open a card you can choose (when available) Accented / No accents, then pick Shape, Center Stone Size, and Jewelry State. Choose Accented or No accents first—the other menus automatically trim to options that actually exist for that version.
Step 2 — Select your diamond
Filter by Shape, Clarity (VS1, SI1, etc.), Cut (Excellent, Very Good—standardized for round), and Carat. Turn “Compatible only” on to see stones that fit the ring’s size window; turn it off to browse freely.
Step 3 — Review & add to cart
Confirm ring size, metal/quality, shank option, and stone. Every ring is made to order after purchase.
No dead ends: Lists stay interactive and keep their full universe of values; combinations that don’t exist are simply disabled. Change one thing at a time (or flip Accented/No accents) to explore—no full reset needed.

WHAT YOU’RE ACTUALLY BUYING
Mounting (setting only)
• Buy just the mounting as shown, or choose one of our lab-grown diamonds for the center stone only and we’ll set it. We do our best to offer the highest quality, the most customization, and the best value we can.
• The small accent stones in the mounting are too tiny to display individually; we set them with matching lab-grown diamonds so the fit and look are perfect. (We use our Haejin diamonds for side stones or any stones not selectable in Step 2.)
Semi-Set
• Side/accents are already included and set. You select the center stone only; we set it and finish the ring.
Set / Fully Set
• All stones are already included and set. Purchase and we ship directly.
Made to Order
None of our rings are pre-made. We craft your ring after the order and ship once completed.

METALS & QUALITY
Gold karats & what they mean
• 10K Gold — Very durable, most affordable; slightly paler yellow; great for active wear.
• 14K Gold — Our most popular balance of color, durability, and value; everyday-friendly.
• 18K Gold — Higher gold content; richer color and a touch softer than 14K; luxury feel.
Colors: Yellow • Rose • White.
White gold is gold alloyed to appear white and usually rhodium-plated for extra brightness. Some modern ultra-white alloys reduce replating frequency. Nickel-sensitive? Ask about nickel-free alloys or choose platinum.
Platinum
Naturally white, hypoallergenic, dense; develops a soft patina. Feels solid and premium on the hand.

STONE SHAPES & MEASUREMENTS (MM VS CARAT)
Shapes you’ll see
Round • Oval • Princess (Square) • Cushion • Emerald • Pear • Marquise • Asscher • Radiant • Heart.
How sizes are written
• Single number: 4.2 mm — usually a round’s diameter.
• Two numbers: 6.8 × 4.9 mm — Length × Width (oval, pear, marquise, emerald, radiant, etc.).
• Square: 4.2 × 4.2 mm (princess, square cushion, asscher).
Carat explained
Carat (ct) is weight (1 ct = 0.2 g), not a direct size. Two stones with the same carat can “face up” differently in mm depending on shape and cut.
What are “fancy shapes”?
In gem talk, fancy shapes are any shapes other than round. (Different from fancy color, which means non-colorless diamonds.)
Compare shapes fairly with ERD
We use ERD (Equivalent Round Diameter) to compare a fancy shape to a round:
• ERD ≈ (Length + Width) ÷ 2
Example: 6.8 × 4.9 mm oval → ERD ≈ 5.85 mm (faces up like a ~5.85 mm round).
Length : Width ratio (silhouette, not size)
• What it is: Length ÷ Width. 8 × 5 mm pear → 1.60.
• What it means: how elongated vs. plump a fancy shape looks.
– 1.00 → square/round look (princess, asscher, round).
– Higher numbers → longer and slimmer (pear, oval, marquise, emerald).
– Typical windows: Oval 1.30–1.45 • Pear 1.40–1.55 • Marquise 1.75–2.25 • Emerald 1.30–1.50 • Cushion 1.00–1.20.
• Why it matters: style preference; some heads/halos are built for a ratio range so stones seat perfectly. In our builder you don’t type a ratio—your 8 × 5 mm size already tells us the silhouette; we simply display “L:W ≈ …” for clarity.
Bottom line
• 8 × 5 mm = the actual size.
• ERD ~ 6.5 mm = how big it looks compared to a round.
• 1.60 = how elongated it looks.
────────────────────────────────
CARAT ↔ MM QUICK MATH (RULE-OF-THUMB)
Rounds
Diameter (mm) ≈ 6.5 × (carat)^(1/3)
Common round benchmarks
0.10 ct → ~3.0 mm
0.25 ct → ~4.1 mm
0.33 ct → ~4.5 mm
0.50 ct → ~5.1 mm
0.75 ct → ~5.8 mm
1.00 ct → ~6.5 mm
1.50 ct → ~7.4 mm
2.00 ct → ~8.2 mm
3.00 ct → ~9.4 mm
Fancy shapes
Use ERD like a round’s diameter, then: Length = ERD × √(ratio), Width = ERD ÷ √(ratio).
Small-stone note
Very petite stones (often < ~6.0 mm face-up) may not carry lab reports because certification costs outweigh the value; we still rely on accurate measurements and visual matching.

RING SIZING GUIDE
• Range: US 4.00–12.00 (¼-sizes offered).
• Fit tips: Slim bands feel looser; wide bands feel tighter. Between sizes? For slim bands choose the snugger; for wide bands choose the looser.
• Resizing: Most solitaire-style mountings allow future adjustment. Eternity and some full-accent bands have limited resize windows.
• Ring sizer: Not sure? Ask us and we’ll mail you a sample ring sizer so you can try at home before you commit.
Ring Sizer Program (credit back)
- Create your Haejin account.
- Purchase our ring sizer and confirm your exact size at home (we use the same standard sizing you’ll see everywhere).
- When you later purchase your ring from the same account, we discount the cost of the sizer from your ring price.
────────────────────────────────
IMPORTANT: SIZING & RETURNS POLICY (PLEASE READ)
We recommend you are 100% sure of your ring size before you commit, because each piece is made to order.
• Returns outside the return window incur a 15% fee.
• If anything arrives wrong, damaged, or scratched, we will send you a prepaid label; once received, we inspect, repair, and ship it back at no cost to you.
• Because your selection is highly customized, it’s crafted for you—we can’t simply resell it to someone else (just as we would never resell you a returned piece at a discount).
If you have any questions at all, please contact us—we’re happy to help you choose confidently.

POWER TIPS IN THE BUILDER
• Start with Accented / No accents when available; the other menus will immediately filter to what exists for that path.
• Want freedom? Turn “Compatible only” off. Want a guaranteed fit? Turn it on.
• Seeing “no results”? It’s often because very small stones (< ~6 mm) aren’t listed individually—widen your size/carat range, turn Compatible only off, or try another shape.
• Small stones (< ~6 mm) may not have lab reports; they still appear as long as measurements and price exist.
────────────────────────────────
CARE & MAINTENANCE
• Remove rings for heavy lifting, harsh chemicals, or abrasive activities.
• Clean with warm water + mild dish soap + a soft brush; rinse and dry.
• Schedule occasional prong/stone checkups; we’re happy to help.

FAQ
Can I buy a complete ring without choosing a diamond?
Yes—choose Set / Fully Set. For Semi-Set, you choose only the center; for Mounting, you can buy just the mounting or select our center diamond (we’ll set it).
Why don’t I see tiny stones listed one by one?
Accent stones are too small to display individually. We set them with lab-grown diamonds that match the quality shown.
Why are some options gray/struck out?
Gray means that combination doesn’t exist for your current path. Change one value (or flip Accented/No accents) to re-enable choices.
What’s the timeline?
Every piece is made to order. You’ll see an estimated date at checkout; we keep you posted along the way. If it’s a semi-set or a mounting where you chose a center stone, add a little extra lead time for setting.
